Mariah Carey’s ‘Side-Eye’ During Tribute Performance at 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards Spark Internet Buzz
*Mariah Carey’s reactions to a tribute performance during the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards have sparked buzz on social media.
The event featured Muni Long and Tori Kelly performing a Mariah Carey medley at LA’s Dolby Theater on Monday night. During Muni’s rendition of MiMi’s hit song “We Belong Together,” the camera caught Carey turning away from the stage and giving a side-eye glance at her rumored boyfriend, Anderson .Paak. Fans quickly took to social media to share their thoughts on her reaction. Per the New York Post, one viewer tweeted, “Mariah Carey is not feeling these performances and is not hiding that fact.”
Another commenter remarked, “The way Mariah Carey can’t help but show her disinterest on her face but I get it I’m the same my face tells everything.” A third fan added, “Some people say more with their face than they can articulate in words.”
“She was wondering why they didn’t book Ariana [Grande],” another person wrote.
During Carey’s acceptance speech for the iHeartRadio Icon Award, she made a humorous comment about the lighting, joking, “Is the lighting OK, because I don’t like bad lighting.”

Continuing with her speech, Carey explained, “Thank you iHeart for this incredible honor. As a kid, I used to listen to my favorite artist on the radio and dream of being on the airwaves myself.”
“Now, for those of you who may not know what airwaves are, think of it as the non-Wi-Fi version of streaming, OK?” she joked. “Even now I still get excited when I hear one of my songs playing on the radio. It never stops being magical.”
Before concluding her speech, Carey paid tribute to her late mother, Patricia Carey, who passed at 87 away in August 2024, the same month her sister, Alison Carey, also died at age 63.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey told PEOPLE at the time. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” the singer added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
