The reboot of the 1958 sci-fi horror is being driven by top director Tim Burton, 66, who has previously led remakes of Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
He is also searching for a new scriptwriter as Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn quit after penning a first draft.
The film follows a troubled heiress who grows into a giant after a close encounter with an alien, before taking revenge on her cheating husband.
The original had a run-time of 75 minutes with Alison Hayes in the lead.

It was remade in 1993 when Daryl Hannah and Daniel Baldwin starred in a version described as having “an even more feminist slant.”
Barbie, which Margot produced and starred in, made £1.1billion globally to become the highest-grossing film of 2023.
The Aussie, 35, will next appear on screen in February in a remake of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights.
She became a mum in October when she had a son with husband Tom Ackerley.
