Lizzo sent Seth Meyers’ dad flowers as apology for calling him a bitch

Lizzo is still making amends for her infamous 2022 day-drinking session with Seth Meyers.

During Wednesday’s episode of Late Night, Meyers revealed that the “About Damn Time” singer actually sent his dad Larry flowers and a note apologizing for calling him a “bitch” after the pair left him a drunken voicemail as part of the show’s segment.

“My highlight of day-drinking — there were a lot — you called my dad, we left him a message, and I would just like to show it real quick,” Meyers recalled before the show cut to the original clip. 

In the video, Meyers can be seen leaving his dad a quick message about watching an upcoming sporting event before passing the phone to the four-time Grammy winner.

“Bye, bitch!” she cheered, before Meyers abruptly ended the call. Turning to him with a shocked expression, she then asked, “Why did you hang up?”

More than two years later, Lizzo said she still couldn’t believe that Meyers just left her hanging like that. “You hung up!” she yelled. “You ain’t s—.”

Meyers fully admitted that he “panicked” and ended the call after Lizzo’s remark. “But,” he added, “you did something independent of me.”

He continued, “I did not know you did this. I found out you did this from my dad, because you got my dad’s address and you sent flowers to my parents’ house with a note that said, ‘Dear Larry, I’m sorry I called you a bitch.'”

Lizzo confirmed that she was indeed the sender behind the arrangement, saying, “It’s true.”

The kind gesture took Meyers by surprise. “I had a real moment when that happened because I thought to myself, ‘What events had to conspire in my career that my dad called me to say, “I got flowers from Lizzo”?’ Like, in what world?”

Meyers then suggested that they give his dad another call to set the record straight. “Listen, I’ll call him, but I won’t call him a bitch,” Lizzo prefaced as the phone rang. “I’ll tell you that much. I’ll call him anything!”

Once again, the call went to voicemail. “Um, hey, I love you so much. This is Lizzo. I miss you so much,” she said, before handing the phone over to Meyers and telling him to “say ‘bitch.'” 

However, Meyers, a true chaos agent, took the phone and instantly chose violence. “She called you a bitch backstage,” he told his dad before immediately hanging up the phone.

To which a shocked Lizzo shouted, “No, you said ‘bitch’! That was your line! Read the cue card! It says ‘Hey!'” 

Fully ignoring her, Meyers cheerfully concluded the segment.

“Lizzo, everybody!” he announced, and the singer could be seen laughing and clapping along in response.
