The Reds clinched the top-flight title in Arne Slot’s debut campaign last term and are aiming to land their second trophy under the Dutchman.
Palace, meanwhile, won the FA Cup for the first time in their history in May and are making their maiden appearance in the Community Shield.
First played in 1908, the Community Shield is the annual traditional curtain-raiser to the top-flight season as the Premier League winners face the FA Cup champions in a one-off match at Wembley.

What are the extra-time rules in the Community Shield?
There is no extra-time in the Community Shield, although there will be a penalty shootout if the game is level after 90 minutes.
Liverpool making 25th Community Shield appearance
Today marks Liverpool’s 25th appearance in the Community Shield.
The current Premier League champions have won 11 outright, shared the trophy five times and lost eight.
Only one club – Manchester United (31) – have played in the fixture more.
Oliver Glasner: No-one likes to play against us
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said ahead of the match: ‘We asked to play the Community Shield at Anfield – because we are unbeaten there! But also we are unbeaten at Wembley, so that’s why we accepted it in the end!
‘I’m always entering the games with the confidence and the belief that we can win it. We showed it here [in South London], we showed it against Arsenal, we showed it against City, against Villa, the last game against Liverpool…
‘Yes, we know they are a great team, but we know we are a great team as well. We had made a meeting with the players, and we know if we perform at our top level, I think no-one really likes to play against us.’
Arne Slot wary of ‘very good’ Crystal Palace side
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s Community Shield match, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said: ‘We have a chance to win something [at] the beginning of the season.
‘Unfortunately, we face a very good Crystal Palace that have been very difficult to win against for us, because we played 1-1 against them in the last game of the season.
‘They showed in the last final – and even in the semi-final, by the way, as well – how difficult it is to win a one-off game [against] them. I think most of the players that they have are still there, so even more reason to know what a difficult team it is to play against.’
