The Epic Games Store’s series of freebies is continuing, and this week, around its bona fide indie classic Limbo that’s up for grabs. For those not in the know, the Epic Games Store offers a free mobile release every week for us to download and keep. It’s part of the development and publishing giant’s way of bringing in players.
As for Limbo itself, what’s this monochrome puzzler all about? Well, as you might expect from the indie platformer genre, it’s deceptively simple. You are a young boy who’s searching for his sister, but to get to her, you have to cross a dark and dangerous forest.
But between you and that are acres of obstacles, dangerous wildlife and your own fellow man, or boys in this case. All of whom want your head and will take it as gruesomely as possible. Yes, this is not exactly a platformer for those of you who are weak of heart (or stomach).
Life and limbo
Death in Limbo is not particularly pleasant, with crunching, cracking, gory (mercifully somewhat obscured by the monochrome presentation) demises being quite common. But in between all this is a surprisingly heartfelt story that perhaps has something to say about the powerlessness of childhood in the face of an uncaring world.
Cheerful! But there’s a reason this is a cult classic and critically acclaimed. Better yet, being free, there’s no reason not to dive in and give it a go this weekend! So take a look, or keep an eye out, because we’ll be the first to notify you about new EGS offerings.
