Kirsten Storms calls this ‘General Hospital’ love story ‘a little strange’

General Hospital star Kirsten Storms is kissing and telling: Ahead of the 20th anniversary of her start on the daytime soap, she’s looking at the good, the bad, and the ugly of her character Maxie’s many romances.

She told Swooon one in particular — between Maxie and older bad boy Lucky Spencer (Greg Vaughan) — “was a little strange” for her.

“It was weird. I’ve known Greg since I was, like, 14 or 15, and to me, back then, he was a grown up. So, that was a very interesting experience,” Storms told the outlet. Vaughan is 10 years older than Storms.

She continued, “Of course, I always thought Greg was a gorgeous guy, but that was a little strange for me. And the storyline was rough because of all the things Maxie was doing just to get him. So, that was a crazy time and questionable choices were made.” (For instance, at one point, Maxie feigned a pregnancy to try and get Lucky to leave his wife, Elizabeth Webber.)

As is the way with soaps, Maxie has had many dalliances over the years. To Swooon, Storms also shared her candid thoughts about General Hospital loves Jesse Beaudry (Matt Marraccini), Cooper Barrett (Jason Gerhardt), Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), Johnny Zacchara (Brandon Barash), Matt Hunter (Jason Cook), Levi Dunkleman (Zachary Garred), Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), Peter August (Wes Ramsey), and even Franco (James Franco).

Of the latter, she shared that she “was very excited” but also “nervous” to work with the actor. “I thought he was interesting and unique and his authentic self, if you will. I loved that he was honest about his nerves. He didn’t walk in as the movie star James Franco,” Storms recalled. “He walked in as somebody who wanted to learn about how we do things and then was honest about being overwhelmed by the amount of stuff we had to do. And he was humble. He was great to work with. I was nervous to work with him, but it was a great experience.”

May 23 marks the 20-year anniversary of Storms’ first stint playing Maxie Jones, the oldest daughter of Frisco (Jack Wagner) and Felicia Jones (Kristina Wagner). She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her performance in 2009, but lost to fellow General Hospital star Julie Berman.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. (Check local listings.)
