Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos call out audience member who used AI in breakup

Breakups are a hot topic on Live With Kelly & Mark this week, but instead of a hypothetical about whether or not Mark Consuelos would ever leave Kelly Ripa, this time the cohosts set their sights on an audience member who revealed she used artificial intelligence to assist in ending a relationship.

During the couple’s Thursday morning host chat, the topic shifted to how humans use AI to enhance daily tasks — like, for example, breaking up with a romantic partner.

“Artificial intelligence is now writing, ‘It’s not you, it’s me’ texts for Gen Z to break up,” Consuelos said at the top of the broadcast, citing a national survey that indicated at least 41 percent of young adults have enlisted AI to help them break up.

During the discussion, Consuelos looked up and pointed toward a studio audience member sitting on the upper level of the set.

“I see somebody laughing right there!” he said.

“Have you done it? You did it?” Ripa jumped in to ask.

The camera then cut back to the young audience member named Ashley.

“Ashley, wait, you broke up with somebody with the help of AI?” Ripa asked, as Ashley replied, “Kind of” after putting her hand over her mouth in shock.

A stunned Ripa and Consuelos replied with “wow” and “incredible,” respectively.

Consuelos then read a breakup text he crafted with the help of AI, which he said he asked to help him end an imagined five-year relationship, while Ripa joked that he should’ve asked it to help him end a 30-year relationship.

“After 30 years AI was like, 30 years? What’s the point?” Ripa joked.

“They did say they didn’t advise a funny breakup text,” Consuelos said. “It advised against it. It said something like, ‘Stick it out, endure!'”

Though Ripa joked earlier this week that she would never date again if she and Consuelos broke up, the couple have indeed stuck it out and endured through the years, as they were first married 29 years ago in Las Vegas, after first meeting as stars of the TV soap opera All My Children.
