Get well soon wishes are in order for Kathy Griffin — the comedian announced Monday that she has recently undergone a hysterectomy due to a precancerous condition.
“Happy Monday!” she wrote in a text-only Instagram post. “I had a hysterectomy on Friday, that’s right they took out the uterus, the fallopian tubes & the ovaries. Pre-cancerous, blah blah blah.”
She didn’t provide further details on her condition, but did tease she’d be revealing more in a future Patreon post about her “private ‘nurse’ (who possibly…got her scrubs online),” she wrote.
Griffin, 64, went on, “I sent her home because she also thinks that ‘tariffs’ are ‘terrorists.’ So she kept saying stuff like ‘I don’t like Trump anymore because the price of eggs is going up and now he’s adding terrorists!’”
“Not to be an a–hole, but how do I NOT have a reality show to capture all of this???” she added in the caption of the post. “I mean, you can’t write it. It’s too real.” Fans flooded the Instagram post with their well wishes or to share their own experiences with the procedure.
This isn’t the first health scare the comedian has faced in recent years. In August 2021, she revealed she was diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer, despite never smoking.
“I’ve got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed,” Griffin wrote via Twitter at the time. “Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”

She continued, “The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.” The comedian also took the opportunity to remind fans to “please stay up to date on your medical check ups” because “it’ll save your life.”
In December, following the surgery, Griffin announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she had beaten cancer after living with a lung tumor for 10 years.
