Karen Bernod Returns to Music with Special Digital 25th Anniversary Edition Release of Debut Album and NYC Performance

*Renowned soul and jazz singer-songwriter Karen Bernod is making a triumphant return to music, marking the 25th anniversary of her critically acclaimed debut album Some Othaness For U with a digitally remastered re-release.
Some Othaness For U (25th Anniversary Edition) will be available on all major streaming platforms globally beginning Friday, June 27.
The reissue not only celebrates a milestone in Bernod’s storied career but also signals her re-emergence as a solo artist following a hiatus from the spotlight.
Originally released in 2000, Some Othaness For U, established Bernod as a distinctive voice in the soul and jazz scenes— after she found success as a background vocalist for music legends such as Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, and Mary J. Blige.
The anniversary edition of the album has been meticulously remastered by legendary engineer Herb Powers, Jr., offering fans a refreshed experience of Bernod’s signature sound.

Bernod will also take the stage for a special live performance at City Winery in New York City on Monday, June 30.
The concert marks her first major live show since her hiatus and is expected to be a powerful celebration of her musical legacy, featuring selections from Some Othaness For U, fan favorites, and previews of her forthcoming album Iris—a tribute to her late mother, set for release later this year.
“This anniversary is more than just a celebration of the past,” Bernod said. “It’s a new beginning. I’m coming back to the stage renewed, reconnected, and ready to share my soul again.”
The Brooklyn native’s return to the stage highlights a career that has spanned decades and continents. In addition to her own solo work, Bernod’s voice has graced records and tours alongside Luther Vandross, Paul Simon, and Incognito, among many others.
Known for her warm, expressive vocals and socially conscious lyrics, Bernod has cultivated a loyal following drawn to her authenticity and artistic depth.

Bernod’s reemergence is already building momentum. Last month, she released It Seems To Hang On (Live), a jazz-infused reinterpretation of the Ashford & Simpson classic, recorded at the iconic Highline Ballroom.
Backed by her band Brooklyn Soul and longtime collaborators, the performance was praised for its energy and emotional depth.
As she returns to the spotlight, Karen Bernod is once again offering listeners “some othaness”—a unique, soulful space for reflection, celebration, and connection.
