Kaiju No. 8 the Game has surpassed 200,000 pre-registration sign-ups

- Kaiju No. 8: The Game has surpassed 200,000 pre-registrations
- It’s based on the hit manga from Weekly Shonen Jump and author Naoya Matsumoto
- With this milestone, new rewards have been unlocked, with more promised on the next major step
The annals of Weekly Shonen Jump have produced some truly world-beating series (and subsequent mobile spin-offs) such as One Piece and Dragon Ball. Now, it’s young competitor Kaiju No. 8 that’s on the rise, as Kaiju No. 8: The Game has already surpassed over 200,000 pre-registrations, with new rewards now available.
Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world which is regularly plagued by attacks from monstrous kaiju. Japan, in particular falls victim to them often, and so founds its own defence force to cope. The series follows underachiever Kafka Hibino, who dreams of joining the defence force, before he finds himself falling victim to a parasite that lets him transform into the super-powerful kaiju no. 8.
The latest pre-registration milestone has unlocked a whole swathe of new rewards for fans, with 1,000 Dimension Crystals set to hit inboxes when it launches. But the next milestone is even greater, as at 500,000 pre-registrations, fans can look forward to a four-star character [Aiming for Greater Heights] Mina Ashiro.
Kafkaesque
Kaiju No. 8 certainly has stiff competition in even the subgenre of anime and manga-based releases. Bleach: Brave Souls, for example, is still going strong in no small part due to the enduring popularity of the original series.
However, Kaiju No. 8 may also be a look into how manga and anime will be adapted to gaming in the future. With a greater focus on mobile, itself a super-popular platform in Japan, is it that gacha is the gold standard for those making the jump from page to screen?
