Jason Momoa fanboyed over Meryl Streep, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray at ‘SNL50’

Jason Momoa had the time of his life at the SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night taping in New York.

The actor, a two-time host on the venerable sketch comedy, was among the many stars present for the anniversary special celebrating 50 years on screen in February, and had nothing but fond memories to share while visting Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show on Monday. See: cutting a rug with Meryl Streep and meeting Chevy Chase and Bill Murray, two gentlemen who had no idea who he was.

“I’m such a fanboy,” Momoa told Kimmel after the host showed a photo of the Aquaman actor dancing with Streep to the audience. “We were at SNL50 which was a huge honor to be there. And what a wild, crazy night. I met so many people. Meryl Streep walked past me and my lady and I was just like, ‘It’s Meryl Streep, I gotta go say something.’ I walk up to her and she’s like, Hi, Jason.’ I was like, ‘Oh, f—. You know my name. Oh my God. I love you so much.'”

When Streep said that she loved him too, “I was like, ‘How is this happening?'” Momoa continued. “The music’s playing and she started dancing, I start dancing. I’m like, someone please take a photo, please.” Momoa had no recollection of which song they were dancing to. “I was just so stoked that Meryl Streep knew my name,” he said, later recounting how he also became starstruck upon meeting Chase and Murray backstage before the show began.

“I was walking in and this lady was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Aquaman. Chevy, come here!’ Chevy Chase comes over and then Bill Murray’s walking by. She’s like, ‘Bill! Get over here!’ And I’m going like, ‘What’s happening?'” Momoa recounted standing between the two stars and getting their photo taken together. “Bill’s like, ‘Who the hell is this guy?'” Momoa quipped. Did Chase realize he was meeting Aquaman? “He had no clue who I was,” Momoa added. “No clue. I don’t care, I got that picture.”

Momoa’s photo with Chase and Murray was featured in an Instagram post he shared after the taping, which also includes the shot of him dancing with Streep in the carousel of memories from that evening. “What a magical three days,” Momoa captioned the post.

The actor is currently promoting his Minecraft movie, in theaters on April 4, and also stars Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Jemaine Clement, and Jennifer Coolidge. He was also cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, in theaters summer of 2026.
