Janelle Monáe’s Announces ‘The ArchAndroid’ Graphic Novel

*Janelle Monáe is taking her storytelling talents to the world of comic books with her latest project, The ArchAndroid.
MadameNoire reports that the singer/actress introduced the graphic novel at Blerdcon, a convention dedicated to celebrating Black nerd culture, where she gave fans an exclusive first look. During the event, Monáe revealed the cover art and previewed the first chapter. A longtime champion of futuristic and sci-fi narratives, she is known for blending themes of identity, resistance, and liberation in her work—elements that will likely be central to this new project.
Speaking to the crowd at Blerdcon, Monáe highlighted the need for Black representation in speculative fiction. “We deserve to see ourselves as heroes, as revolutionaries, as the architects of our own futures,” she said.
The songstress described The ArchAndroid as a “love letter to the rebels and dreamers,” promising a compelling narrative that challenges conventional ideas about identity and power. The novel, starring Janelle, is a collaboration between Monáe and the creative director of Wondaland Arts Society, with illustrations by Chad Weatherford. It will introduce readers to a fierce Black femme protagonist navigating a world full of intrigue and danger.
The ArchAndroid has no official release date yet. Check out the preview via the Instagram clip below.
