It was with The Last of Us that Naughty Dog began to look at RPG mechanics. The player got to improve some of Joel and Ellie’s skillS as they went through the game.
Clearly, this "RPG" aspect is set to be be present and even more prominent in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. On LinkedIn, a former technical designer who worked on the title for around a year and a half (from August 2022 to February 2024) claims to have participated in the development of "RPG progression systems" for Intergalactic.
This suggests that we could get a more advanced RPG aspect in the game. Of course, this may change during production.
