Innocent driver injured in crash with NSW Police car chasing another vehicle in Sydney’s southwest

A NSW Police car has crashed into a civilian car in Sydney‘s southwest while chasing another vehicle.

Officers were in pursuit of a black Mazda on Elizabeth Dr at Bonnyrigg about 12.15am on Monday when they crashed with a white Mercedes Benz at the intersection of Cabramatta Rd West.

7NEWS understands the Mercedes Benz was stationary at the traffic lights when the police vehicle crashed into it.

“The sedan was not otherwise involved in the pursuit,” NSW Police said.

The 35-year-old man behind the wheel of the sedan was trapped in the vehicle for about 45 minutes following the crash.

He suffered neck and back pain and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment.

Both officers inside the NSW Police car were treated at the scene for minor injuries by paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital.

The driver of the police car will also undergo mandatory testing.

The black Mazda was pulled over in Mount Pritchard, sparking the pursuit. The driver remains at large.

NSW Police will investigate the circumstances of the crash and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.
