Pakistan minister claims two Indian jets shot down

We reported earlier that state-run Pakistan Television said the air force has shot down two Indian jets.

Now information Minister Attaullah Tarar has added to the claims.

“We shot down two Indian planes and we are responding to Indian aggression right now as we speak,” he told Sky News.

He said: “India has carried out cowardly attacks on innocent civilians and mosques within Pakistan, challenging the honour and pride of this nation.

“Now, be prepared. This nation will hold the enemy accountable for every single drop of its martyrs’ blood.

“The Armed Forces of Pakistan are delivering a crushing response, exactly in line with the sentiments of the people. The entire nation stands united in prayers and solidarity with our brave officers and soldiers.”

UN secretary-general is ‘very concerned’ and calls for ‘restraint’

United Nations Secretary-Genera António Guterres is very concerned about Indian military operations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, his spokesperson said.

He has also called for maximum military restraint from India and Pakistan.

“The Secretary-General is very concerned about the Indian military operations across the Line of Control and international border. He calls for maximum military restraint from both countries,” the spokesperson said.

“The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan.”

State of emergency declared by minister of Punjab

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has declared a state of emergency across the province.

All doctors and medical staff in Punjab’s hospitals have had their leave cancelled.

Additionally, officers and staff from civil defence and other relevant departments have been called to duty.

Trump hopes fighting between India and Pakistan ‘ends very quickly’

US president Donald Trump said he hopes fighting between India and Pakistan “ends very quickly”.

When asked about the airstrikes India launched in Pakistani-controlled territory, Trump said he’d just heard about it an said, “It’s a shame.”

“I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past,” Trump said.

“They’ve been fighting for a long time. They’ve been fighting for many, many decades. And centuries, actually, if you really think about it.”

He added: “I just hope it ends very quickly.”

Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif says they have ‘right to respond’

Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, said India has carried out “cowardly” attacks on five locations in Pakistan-controlled territory.

In a post on X he wrote: “The cunning enemy has carried out a cowardly attack on five locations in Pakistan.

“Pakistan fully reserves the right to respond forcefully to this warlike act imposed by India, and a robust response is being given.

“The entire nation stands with the Pakistan Armed Forces, and the morale and spirit of the entire Pakistani nation are high.

“The Pakistani nation and the Pakistan Armed Forces know well how to deal with the enemy.

“We will never allow the enemy to succeed in its nefarious objectives.”

Pakistan’s air force has shot down two Indian jets in retaliation for the strikes on Pakistani-controlled territory, says state-run Pakistan Television.

A statement from Pakistan’s state broadcaster PTV says Pakistani forces are responding “forcefully” to India’s “aggression”.

The Indian army has posted on X that Pakistan has fired back on Bhimber Gali in the India-administered Poonch-Rajauri area.

It added Indian forces are “responding appropriately in a calibrated manner.”
