*La La Anthony and Kim Kardashian are taking their friendship to the next level, as Hulu puts a pilot order in for “Group Chat,” a new comedy series loosely based on Anthony’s bestselling everywoman dating guide, “The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness.”
Written and executive produced by “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris, “Group Chat” centers on five fly, successful women in their 40s who have conquered L.A. and seemingly have it all, Deadline reports.
But behind their picture perfect lives is a secret group chat where the real drama unfolds. In their world, the truth is messier, more unfiltered, and juicier than anyone could imagine.
The show’s journey to pilot order status started after it arrived at Hulu for development in summer 2024. “Group Chat” is the first project stemming from a first-look deal Kardashian signed with 20th Television.
Longtime friends Anthony and Kardashian are on board for the show as executive producers, alongside Barris and Adam Kassan via Khalabo Ink Society.
The Disney TV Studios division will co-produce with BET Studios, where Barris is a principal partner.
News of the “Group Chat” pilot order comes amid Hulu’s efforts to ramp up its live-action comedy roster.
Noting the situation, Deadline mentioned the streamer’s “Mid-Century Modern,” The James Burrows-directed comedy series, which originated as a pilot and premiered March 28, stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham and Linda Lavin, in what would be her final performance before her death in December 2024.
“Chad Powers,” starring series co-creator Glen Powell in the title role, Steve Zahn, Toby Huss and Perry Mattfeld, is slated to premiere later this year.
“Phony” which received a pilot order from Hulu, stars Connie Britton.
