How Long Was Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Prison Sentence?

In 2016, Gypsy pled guilty for her role in mother Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard’s 2015 murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison on second-degree murder charges.

Gypsy got off lightly compared to her partner in crime. She enlisted the help of her then-boyfriend, Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn, to stab Dee Dee to death while Gypsy hid in a bedroom. Nick was found guilty of first-degree murder for being a coconspirator to the crime in 2018. He was sentenced to serve life in prison during a February 2019 sentencing trial. Unlike Gypsy, Nick was not given the possibility of parole.

How Long Was Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Prison?

Gypsy served eight years in prison from her 10-year sentence. She was released on parole on December 28, 2023, from Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard Was Allegedly Abused by Her Mother

Experts believed Dee Suffered from the psychological disorder Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which caused her to invent or exaggerate medical conditions that resulted in the abuse of Gypsy.

The Louisiana native was forced to use a wheelchair as well as believe she was suffering from leukemia and muscular dystrophy. Gypsy’s mother forced her daughter to undergo the removal of her salivary glands behind her neck, even though she didn’t need the procedure.

Gypsy also recalled asking her mother if the procedures were necessary when doctors weren’t around. “She would get really, really upset with me and start manipulating me in a way that she would take her love from me,” she said in a December 2023 interview with People.

“She was a sick woman and unfortunately I wasn’t educated enough to see that,” she told People in a another December 2023 interview. “She deserved to be where I am, sitting in prison doing time for criminal behavior.”

Where Is Gypsy Rose Blanchard Today?

Gypsy became a first-time mom in December 2024, welcoming a daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, with her boyfriend Ken Urker. At the time of her daughter’s birth, Gypsy was in the process of divorcing husband Ryan Scott Anderson, whom she married in July 2022 while still in prison.

The former convict is also a reality star with her own Lifetime docuseries Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. The first season premiered on June 3, 2024, and explored Gypsy’s first six months as a free woman while adjusting to married life on the outside with Ryan.

Season 2 of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up premieres on March 10, 2025, and will take a deeper dive into her romance with Ken and the drama of being pregnant while legally married to someone else.

“So, in the state of Louisiana, the law states that if a child is conceived within a marriage, the husband is the presumed father of that child,” Gypsy explained in a voice over as video of Ryan walking his dog was shown in the trailer that dropped on January 6, 2025.

“I wish that she had gotten through the divorce process when this happened,” Ken revealed about Gypsy’s pregnancy while the duo sat on a bed.

Gypsy ended up taking the paternity test, explaining, “The test is more for the public and more for Ryan to say, ‘Hey dude, you’re not the father. Accept it and move on.’”
