Logan Lerman says he was tied up and left behind on ‘Oh, Hi’

Logan Lerman is redefining lying down on the job.

The actor spends the vast percentage of his screen time in Oh, Hi, in theaters July 25, handcuffed to a bed. But this also occasionally meant that he was left that way when the crew broke for lunch or other breaks between takes.

“There were a few times,” he tells Entertainment Weekly. “I was so comfortable being tied up that they’d be like, ‘Okay, lunch.’ And people would leave, and I would just still be tied to the bed.”

“I’d yell for someone to come for me,” he continues. “That happened maybe once or twice, but most of the time people were pretty attentive and got me out of there.”

Oh, Hi follows Iris (Molly Gordon) and Isaac (Lerman) as they embark on their first romantic weekend away as a couple. But when they start to have a serious conversation about labeling their relationship, things take a turn, and the weekend goes awry in ways the couple never could have expected.

Isaac isn’t thrilled about being imprisoned in a bedroom and handcuffed to a bed, but Lerman was far less bothered by it. “I loved it,” he admits. “It was so comfy. It was a bed and they were nice cuffs. They were like leather cuffs. It was great.”

When the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, Lerman spoke to the difficulties of such a physically restricting role. “It was challenging for me,” he said. “I was limited in my physical options, and that became a fun challenge for me. I just enjoyed it. I’m used to doing some pretty heavy s— and to go to work and just have fun and goof around with these great actors was so much fun.”

At the same premiere screening, Gordon praised her costar for tackling his role fearlessly. “He changed the game for us,” she said. “It takes an incredible man to do this role and be tied up for an entire film.”
