Hilaria Baldwin put fake boot on Alec Baldwin to cover other health issue

Hilaria Baldwin admits that while husband Alec Baldwin was struggling in the aftermath of the Rust tragedy, she attempted to cover it up by making it look like he had another injury.

“He was in the hospital for, I don’t know, I think a week,” she said of her husband on a recent episode of the podcast Two Ts in a Pod With Teddi Mellencamp and Tamra Judge. “When I brought him out of the hospital, he was walking with a walker because he couldn’t walk. I put a boot on his leg to pretend that he had hurt his leg, because I didn’t want people to say that he was —”

The hosts suggested that Hilaria didn’t want people to think that Alec, 67, was faking being ill for sympathy.

“The whole fake thing. It’s just so stupid,” said The Baldwins star. “I can’t handle when people question what’s real, because that’s gaslighting, you know. And so we just pretended that it was something else.”

She said that, “Alec is somebody who cares tremendously, and one of the hard things for people who care a lot is they feel everything.”

The health episode happened after Alec’s involvement in the on-set death of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. She died in an accidental shooting after the Glengarry Glen Ross actor’s prop gun discharged during filming on the New Mexico set of the independent Western. (Director Joel Souza was also injured.)

Alec, who has repeatedly said that he did not discharge the gun, along with the other producers on the film, faced a wrongful death lawsuit that was settled in 2022. Criminally, he was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but the charges were ultimately dismissed in 2024.

Baldwin returned to set to finish filming the independent Western in 2023. Rust was released in theaters on May 2.

“With the pressure and the stress and everything that was happening, on top of how just awful this tragedy was and is, he just started turning off, stopped eating,” Hilaria said. “The stress … I brought him to the hospital multiple times, and then he started really declining. He passed out on me on Fifth Avenue and 101st Street, right in front of Mount Sinai [Hospital], right in front.”

She noted that her husband has considered leaving the entertainment industry altogether.

“The negativity can be so loud, and if you let that cloud the fact that there’s so much positivity, then it can feel all-consuming,” Hilaria said. “And so my hope with him, regardless of what he decides to do. He loves to act and be doing the only thing he really knows how to do, because he’s done this his whole life and he’s so good at it. He knows he loves it so much. But I think that when he’s hurting, he just doesn’t know what to do.”

Hilaria and Alec, who married in 2012, share seven children, ages 3 to 12.
