Pocketpair was shocked by Nintendo's Palworld complaint

The studio behind Palworld has been chatting away at GDC, which runs until March 21 in San Francisco. Once again, it was John Buckley, head of the Pocketpair Publishing division, who raised a delicate subject.

He was asked about the complaint filed by Nintendo in September 2024 against Palworld. The Japanese manufacturer believes that Pocketpair has infringed several patents relating to the Pokémon saga.

Buckley says that the complaint "came as a shock" to the studio’s teams. He explains that it came as a complete surprise, since the Japanese legal authorities had given the green light for the title to be marketed. Pocketpair had been talking about Palworld long before its release, and the timing of the complaint was more than surprising.

As the case is still ongoing, the head of Pocketpair’s publishing division declined to comment further. He obviously does not want to get involved in this legal mess, and prefers to let the lawyers do their job.
