*Daryl Hall has had his fill of his former partner in song, John Oates. The legendary group Hall & Oates is no more.

Chatting with The Times of London, Daryl Hall put any notion of reuniting and performing with his bandmate Oates to rest, saying, “That ship has gone to the bottom of the ocean. I’ve had a lot of surprises in my life, disappointments, betrayals, so I’m kind of used to it.”

“I’ve been involved with some pretty shady characters over the years,” he continued. “That’s where the problems start.”

Chronicling Hall’s musical partnership with Oates, Deadline, noted the pair, who met as students, invaded the music industry as a performing duo in the early 1970s.

Hall & Oates ultimately emerged as the most successful duo of all time, garnering fans via a slew of classic songs that stay in regular rotation on radio to this day.

At their peak, the hitmaking pair sold 60 million records, with 16 US Top Ten singles to their credit. The group’s hits include “Kiss on My List,” “Maneater,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Out of Touch,” “Rich Girl,” “Sara Smile” and “You Make My Dreams.”

Looking back at his history with Oates, Hall broke down their individual contributions to the group, with him being more of a factor in creating tunes that comprised their catalog.

“The songs with his lead vocal are the songs he wrote, and all the other ones, which is about 90 per cent, are the ones I wrote,” Hall said.

Throughout their time together, the crooner is proud to highlight the fact he never fell victim to indulged in drugs during their pre-fame days nor the height of their success – “they never agreed with me” – but for everything else? “Just watch Spinal Tap.,” he told the Times.

Despite their hits and a healthy run, Hall & Oates reached the end of their musical journey in 2023, when Oates started selling his stake in their publishing company without Hall’s consent. The “Live from Daryl’s House” host fired back against his former collaborator with a lawsuit filed to prevent Oates from doing so. In Hall’s eyes, Oates’ move served as “the ultimate partnership betrayal.”
