GPD is working on a handheld console with a Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 Strix Halo APU

A prototype GPD handheld console featuring the powerful AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 Strix Halo APU has just appeared on Geekbench. This would be the first model of its kind to feature this chip, with 16 cores and a Radeon 8060S iGPU.

This model, identified as GPD-G1618-05, is said to be linked to the future Win 5 console. The benchmark indicates a boost frequency in excess of 5.1 GHz, although precise TDP data remain unknown.

Memory-wise, the system uses DDR5, with 24 GB recognized by Geekbench. Notebookcheck estimates that this is actually a 32 GB model with 8 GB reserved for the GPU, a configuration superior to that of the ROG Ally or MSI Claw.

The price of this console could be high, notably due to the cost of the Strix Halo, which is difficult to integrate into machines under the $2,000 mark. Some even point to the absence of a battery on the prototype, which could indicate an unfinished model or one dependent on an external power supply.
