Free League Announces New The One Ring Starter Set Coming at End of July

A new The One Ring starter set is coming. Free League Publishing has announced a new way for both fantasy RPG and Tolkien fans to get a taste of their award-winning RPG set in the land of Middle-earth. Better still, they will be available at Gen Con.
The One Ring Starter Set Announcement
According to an official press release, the new The One Ring starter set is a beginner-friendly, condensed version of the second edition of the licensed TTRPG. The starter set includes a new, prewritten adventure, Over Hill and Under Hill, which takes place sometime before Bilbo Baggins’ journey to The Lonely Mountain and the return of Sauron. It takes the players on a journey through the Lone-Lands of Eriador.

The starter set contains the following:
- The prewritten adventure
- A condensed version of the core rules for action resolution, counsels, combat, and journeys
- A large full-color map of the land of Eriador
- Cardboard Stand-Up Figures of both PCs and Enemies
- Five Prewritten Character Sheets with Illustrations
- Custom Dice with Special Engraved Symbols
The custom dice you receive will depend on what The One Ring starter set you purchase. If you pick up the one based on Free League’s original system, you will get two unique d12 Feat dice and six D6 Success dice.
If you pick up the Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5e Starter Set, an adaptation of Middle-earth using Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, the custom dice includes two 2d20 — one featuring the Rune of Gandalf; the other the dreaded Eye of Sauron.
If you are attending this year’s Gen Con, you can pick up a The One Ring starter set at Free League Publishing’s booth at the event. If you can’t make it to the major tabletop event, the sets will be available worldwide on July 31. Each set will be sold at an MSRP of $29.99. If you pre-order set, you will receive a PDF of the set’s contents at no additional charge.
