A new interactive experience makes its debut in Fortnite this week. Epic Games has announced the return of Darth Vader to the game… but not via a simple skin.
In fact, it’s in Battle Royale mode that players can now chat with the legendary antagonist of the Star Wars franchise. A special command appears on the screen to initiate the discussion. The character will then open up on subjects such as the Force, the Empire and military strategy.
This is made possible by conversational AI. Darth Vader’s responses will be based on audio recordings of player voices captured by Gemini. While Epic will be able to access the recordings as part of a report made by other users, they will not be retained thereafter. Parental authorization will also be required for players under the age of 13 wishing to access this experience.
