Luenell Gets ‘That Time of the Month’—And It’s Raw, Real, and Unfiltered! | VIDEO

*Luenell doesn’t hold back—and audiences wouldn’t have it any other way. The outspoken comedy icon and scene-stealing actress is booked, busy, and blessed. She’s lending her voice to the animated hit “Dog Man” as the character “Milly,” appearing in HBO’s acclaimed comedy “Hacks,” and starring alongside Tracy Morgan in the upcoming Paramount+ series “Crutch,” a spinoff of the CBS sitcom “The Neighborhood.”
And if that’s not enough, she’s also doubling down on live comedy.
Luenell has officially launched a monthly comedy residency at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank. Her show, titled “That Time of the Month With Luenell,” kicks off Wednesday, August 6, 2025, and will run every first Wednesday of the month through December.
The name is cheeky, but the comedy is no joke. “That was the first night of my extended comedy stint monthly at Flappers in Burbank,” she recently confirmed. “That’s right, ladies and gentlemen.”
This new chapter comes after a standing ovation at the Apollo Theater—twice. Last year, Luenell made history as the first Black female comedian to sell out the iconic venue since Moms Mabley in the 1960s.

She returned in May 2025 to do it again. “I said, surely Whoopi’s been here,” Luenell recalled. “But I had other comedians tell me I was the first one to sell it out since Moms. That was a great honor.”She’s also still relishing the success of her Netflix stand-up special, “Chappelle’s Home Team Presents: Luenell: Town Business,” executive produced by Dave Chappelle and directed by Stan Lathan.
The special was filmed at Yoshi’s in Oakland, and received glowing praise from peers—including the legendary Jenifer Lewis. “She told me I was a genius,” Luenell shared. “She had never seen me live. That meant the world.”
But live stand-up remains her sweet spot. “Comedy doesn’t just find you,” she said. “You have to go out and see it. People know me—but they don’t always know what I do unless they come to a show.”
Her boldness caught the eye of another powerhouse: Rihanna. The singer and entrepreneur tapped Luenell as a Savage X Fenty ambassador in 2020.
“I told her I wanted to be a model,” Luenell said, laughing. “I thought we were just joking, but next thing I know, I get a contract and catalogs.” The experience, she added, was unexpectedly empowering. “Women were writing me saying, ‘You inspired me to do a photo shoot for myself or my man.’ That meant everything.”

She also isn’t shy about her favorite dish—both cooking and eating it. “I love good gumbo,” she declared. “Everybody loves my gumbo, but don’t bring me no bad gumbo.”
When she’s not performing in Vegas or taping another guest-starring role, you’ll find her back in Burbank, mic in hand, commanding the stage. For dates and tickets, visit luenell.com or flapperscomedy.com.
