Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles has been remade without the original game's source code
At long last, Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles was officially announced at the latest State of Play. This new version comes out on September 30th for PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
In an interview by Square Enix, remake director Kazutoyo Maehiro discussed the challenges of such a project.
"There were a number of major challenges, but all of them stemmed from the fact that the master data and source code from the original game no longer existed." He added that things were done that way at the time: it wasn’t "mishandled or poorly managed". The norm wasn’t preserving a title’s source code.
The director also took the opportunity to confirm that the new features introduced in Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, released back in 2007 on PSP, will not be present in the remake. The graphics will, however, be slightly improved, as will the interface.
