Fate War is now available for iOS and Android, bringing a new pitch into the strategy genre

The strategy genre is a particularly vibrant one on mobile. No doubt because it’s so easy to play it via touchscreen, maybe even moreso than any other platform! Now, IGG is making their new pitch into that jam-packed genre with their latest release, Fate War.

Fate War isn’t reinventing the wheel with its concept. You play the exiled leader of a country now forced to rebuild on a distant island. Gathering citizens and different heroes, you’ll have to build up from a tiny hamlet into a formidable kingdom.

Where Fate War differs is in cribbing some key mechanics that have gone as-yet unused in mobile strategy. At least not enough to be overdone. A full day-night cycle and differing climates promise plenty by way of difficulty, while also allowing for massive real-time battles and strategic depth, as your tribe will struggle to develop unless you deal with the changing world correctly.

Can’t escape from crossing fate

Naturally, Fate War is also sure to emphasise the element of fair competition, that is to say, no pay-to-win. Fortunately, it seems as if the emphasis here will be on customisability and accessories to make your village look distinct, rather than buying your way to victory.

I’m curious about Fate War, especially the roguelike aspects. One of the more frustrating issues with mobile strategy is its reluctance to let you fail. After all, I can’t imagine anything that’d turn away someone who sank dozens of hours into it than all their plans falling apart. But that sort of mode might offer a fair alternative for those who want to risk it all and crave a challenge.
