Watch Flavor Flav crash Green Day’s Walk of Fame star unveiling

The most punk rock thing ever just happened at Green Day’s Walk of Fame star unveiling ceremony — someone crashed the event.

Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool were honored on Thursday with the 2,810th star being dedicated to their punk rock band, but Flavor Flav crashed the ceremony less than two weeks after he crashed their Coachella 2025 weekend two set.

During the Walk of Fame dedication, the rapper slowly inched his way over to the podium in the background as the band gathered around their star. As the star was unveiled, Flavor Flav jumped up to say something in the microphone (starting around 36:40 in the video). Alas, the mic was not turned on, ruining the punchline to his planned stunt.

It’s not hard to imagine Flavor Flav said his catchphrase, “Yeah, boyyyyyy!” into the mic. But instead, it was silent, until the mic finally turned on to catch his laugh afterwards in the hilariously awkward moment.

Ryan Reynolds, who honored the band in a speech earlier in the ceremony (starting around 15:15 in the video), seemed to be the only one who heard Flavor Flav jumping on the mic. The actor turned around to hug the rapper, who then hugged music executive Rob Cavallo. Flavor Flav then needed some assistance to hop down from the podium platform and joined in the photo opp next to Green Day drummer Cool.

When Armstrong, Dirnt, and Cool said their thank yous, they forgot to mention the actor. Someone interrupted the ceremony to remind them, and Armstrong reacted with, “Oh, jeez.”

To make it right, Armstrong delivered the perfectly simple punk response: “Ryan. Thank you.”

Dirnt popped up to the mic to explain, “It goes without saying.”

“Thank you so much,” Armstrong repeated while laughing. “You have a hell of schedule, so thank you so much for coming out and doing this. And congratulations to Wrexham — I don’t know if you guys have watched the documentary, but it’s fantastic.”

Flavor Flav recently popped up at Green Day’s Coachella set on April 19. Before the band took the stage, their iconic pink drunk bunny mascot ran around as the crowd cheered. This is a normal occurrence for Green Day show, but when the bunny unmasked to reveal Flavor Flav, the crowd went even wild. As he was pulled offstage, he led the massive audience in a call and response: “When I say Flavor, you say Flav! When I say Green, you say Day!”

The week prior, Green Day made waves during their weekend one Coachella set by once again changing lyrics in their popular songs to represent the fraught political landscape. During the band’s opener, “American Idiot,” Armstrong repeated the same lyric change he debuted during their recent Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest appearance: “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” became “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.” The crowd reacted by cheering as loudly as if it were the first time Armstrong sang those lyrics.

But the response to Armstrong’s second, newer updated lyric later was even bigger. During “Jesus of Suburbia,” he changed the line “runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized” to “runnin’ away from pain like the kids from Palestine, tales from another broken home.” The reference to the Israel-Palestine war had the musical festival attendees clapping and cheering as Armstrong let the message sink in for an extended moment — if everyone hadn’t already been dancing, it felt like Armstrong would have gotten a standing ovation.

Reynolds, meanwhile, recently showed his love of Green Day by using their song “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” in his movie Deadpool & Wolverine. The song plays over the end credits alongside a eulogy-esque montage of behind-the-scenes footage from 20th Century Fox superhero titles. A month after the movie’s July release, Cool and Dirnt pranked Armstrong on stage during a performance of off their 1997 hit song by dressing up as the Marvel characters Deadpool and Wolverine.

In a TikTok video shared to the band’s official account, Armstrong could be seen laughing so hard that he can hardly finish the song as his costumed bandmates messed with him — taking turns touching him and pretending to cup his genitals. Once the song ended, Cool channeled Deadpool, yelling “Baby knife!” — the character’s nickname for his small knife in the Deadpool films — into the microphone.

Deadpool himself, a.k.a. Reynolds, gave a big thumbs-up to Green Day’s hilarious homage, sharing the video to his own Instagram days later, along with the caption, “I’m crying. I love you, @GreenDay. I can’t feel my life right now. #deadpoolandwolverine.”
