Sean Kingston’s Mother Testifies in Fraud Trial

*Singer Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, are currently on trial in Fort Lauderdale federal court, facing charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. Prosecutors accuse them of using fake wire transfer receipts to fraudulently acquire luxury goods.
On Thursday, Turner, 62, took the stand and admitted to creating falsified wire transfer documents. Per Local10, she testified to her “son being financially irresponsible and creating fake wire transfer receipts as a way to buy time to investigate the people he was doing business with,” the outlet writes, but the prosecution argues it was a deliberate scheme to deceive.
The government’s case includes evidence of 33 fraudulent bank wire receipts found on Turner’s phone. These receipts allegedly correspond to high-value purchases, including a $115,000 television, a $159,000 Cadillac Escalade, and multiple luxury watches worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Prosecutors highlighted that none of these transactions appeared in Kingston’s bank records.
The trial reached its fourth day with testimony from the lead case agent, who detailed the extent of the alleged fraud. After the prosecution rested, the defense moved for an acquittal, arguing that the government failed to prove intent to defraud. They contended that some of the alleged victims were eventually compensated—either in full, partially, or by having their merchandise returned. However, prosecutors countered that repaying or returning goods does not negate the initial fraud. The judge denied the motion, leaving the verdict up to the jury.
As the trial progresses, Kingston (whose real name is Kisean Anderson) is expected to testify. His submission could play a pivotal role in determining the case’s outcome.
