*The adage “everything old is new again” could not be truer than in cinema. “Karate Kid” is on its sixth outing with “Karate Kid: Legends.” And the stories of bullies getting their comeuppance never get old.

The 1984 “Karate Kid” tells the story of Daniel LaRusso, a teenager who moves with his widowed mother to Los Angeles. There, LaRusso is persecuted by other boys. Fast forward to 2025’s “Karate Kid: Legends,” that unites the martial arts masters of the film franchises to tell a stand-alone story of reckoning.

When “Legends” kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) relocates to New York City with his mother (Ming-na Wen) to attend a prestigious new school, he finds solace in a new friendship with classmate Mia (Sadie Stanley) and her father, Victor (Joshua Jackson). But his newfound peace is short-lived after he attracts unwanted attention from a formidable local karate champion (Aramis Knight). Driven by a desire to defend himself, Li embarks on a journey to enter the ultimate karate competition.

That trial is the 5 Boroughs Tournament, where the grand prize is $50,000. Besides feeling the need to protect himself, Li has an ulterior motive. One day he witnessed goons beating Mia’s dad because he owed money. Li steps in and defeats the attackers.

When Li’s brother was killed after a competition, his mother forbade him from training. Unbeknownst to her, Li takes on the martial arts mantle. Guided by the wisdom of his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), and the renown Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Li merges their unique styles to prepare for the epic martial arts showdown.
