*Rapper/actor Common recently shared his deep affection for girlfriend Jennifer Hudson, describing their bond as a transformative chapter in his life.
On the July 28 episode of the Mama, I Made It! podcast, he spoke with host Samantha Chatman, calling Hudson one of his “greatest blessings” and a cornerstone of his life.
“The friendship, the partnership, the life partnership, just the connection, it’s one of those things where you don’t know truly what true partnership and relationship is until you get there,” he said.
Their romance, which began in 2023, followed years of knowing each other, including collaborating on the 2024 sci-fi thriller “Breathe.” Common emphasized that their relationship blossomed at the right moment, crediting personal growth for their connection.
“It’s like those things you pray for and you don’t get them until you’re ready,” he noted, adding, “Whatever growing I had to do, it was the divine time in alignment when Jennifer and I started like being interested in each other.”
The Chicago-born star, who has previously dated celebrities like Erykah Badu and Tiffany Haddish, highlighted the unique bond he shares with Hudson, a fellow Chicago native.
“This Chicago woman–[there’s] something there like that we … we can relate to certain things,” he said.
Common expressed that he and Hudson are “equally yoked,” adding, “When you get there, you recognize what it is. And I hold her up high and God willing, I keep praying for that–we just continue to be at our best with each other.”
This sentiment echoes his comments on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in October, where he responded to Hudson’s playful question about marriage rumors with, “If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson.”
During a December 2024 appearance on the Today show, he reaffirmed his feelings when Al Roker brought up his marriage comments.
“I was telling my truth and that truth still is there,” Common said, adding, “She’s just an amazing human being, beautiful person.”
