Elon Musk Non-Specifically Regrets (Some of) the Things He Said About Trump Last Week

Elon Musk is sorry. For what, you might ask? For the things he said about Donald Trump when he was upset. Which things? He’d rather not say at this time.

Taking to X at 3:04 a.m. ET on Wednesday, the richest man in the world wrote: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” He did not specify which posts he felt had crossed a line, but some possibilities include:

  • The one in which he called Trump’s signature spending bill a “disgusting abomination”
  • The one in which he wrote: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” and then added, “such ingratitude”
  • The one in which he appeared to back a call for Trump to be impeached and removed from office
  • The one in which he declared: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

Musk later deleted the Epstein post, and given that it’s the only one in which he suggests Trump had a relationship with a man convicted of horrific sex crimes, there’s a good chance that it’s one of the posts he’s referring to when he says “some” went “too far.” Or maybe not! Maybe he thinks it was fine and he simply feels regret about saying mean things regarding Trump’s “big beautiful bill.”

Musk’s 3 a.m. mea culpa comes on the heels of an incredible Axios report in which a “confidant” of the president’s revealed that Trump is a human and has feelings. “The president was actually hurt” by the Musk dustup, the person familiar with the matter told the outlet. “Yes, he has feelings, and he was hurt the way anyone would be when a friend turns on them.” The report also noted that, while Trump may have been upset by the way the man who bought him a second term had lashed out, he quickly moved on, and turned his frown upside down by sending the National Guard into Los Angeles. According to White House sources who spoke to Axios, the president has been “energized” by the LA protests, which “wiped away the Elon drama.” Nothing like a little authoritarianism to perk a guy up!
