Ed Helms recently recalled the crappy gift that Zach Galifianakis left for a helicopter pilot who worked on The Hangover Part II.
Stopping by Vulture’s Good One podcast, The Office actor discussed one of the most fun moments on set of The Hangover trilogy.
In the second film’s big finale, the main trio Phil (Bradley Cooper), Alan (Galifianakis), and Stu (Helms) ride a giant speedboat to Stu’s wedding. Helms said that it was “so cool” to cruise along on Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River while a helicopter flew close to the water to film them.
“We had this French helicopter pilot who was legendary as being, like, unbelievably good,” he said. “He was doing these insane sweeps around us. We’re going, like, 50 miles an hour in this giant boat and this helicopter is swooping over us. It felt like a military operation and we’re just whooping it up on this boat.”
While the stunt was thrilling, Helms admitted it was also “terrifying” to have the helicopter so close to his head. His co-star Galifianakis appeared to agree, as he later sent a gift to the pilot as a token of his gratitude — and fear.
“That night, Zach got a Snickers bar and mashed it into a pair of tighty-whities and had it delivered to to the chopper pilot’s hotel room as like a thank you for scaring the s— out of us,” Helms said. “That was awesome.”

Helms has been open about his anxiety following the massive success of The Hangover movies, but he told Good One that he “wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
He shared, “I love all three movies. I think what was so special about the first one is how joyful it was. And that was something that we were very consciously adding in.”
