EA has announced that the next iteration of its football game, EA Sports FC 26, will be fully revealed later this week on July 16. In a post on social media platform X, the company also confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will serve as the cover athlete for the Ultimate Edition version of the game.

It is worth noting that, aside from announcing that the reveal trailer will be released in 24 hours, EA hasn’t really revealed any more details about the game. However, Ibrahimovic being the cover athlete for the Ultimate Edition does mean that we’ll also get to see him as an icon in the game alongside other legendary athletes that will be part of the upcoming title’s roster.

Going by the franchise’s history, we’ll likely see EA Sports FC 26 come out some time in September for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. We might also see an announcement for the Switch 2. It is currently unknown if EA will also bring the game to the previous generation of consoles.

EA had previously spoken about bringing its sports titles to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, in a statement from back in April, the company had indicated that the Switch 2 releases for its sports games – namely EA Sports FC and Madden NFL – will be a “consistent player experience across platforms as much as the hardware allows.” This could mean that the Switch 2 version of the upcoming football game might get less features than its PS5 and Xbox Series X/S counterparts.

“We’re excited to bring two of our most beloved franchises – EA Sports FC and Madden NFL – to Nintendo’s Switch 2, giving fans even more ways to play the sports they love, anytime and anywhere,” said EA in a statement. “Both experiences are being built specifically for the new handheld platform, grounded in what fans enjoy from our franchises across platforms. We look forward to sharing more soon.”

When EA was asked about whether the Switch 2 versions of the games would also include cross-platform multiplayer, the company was careful to not confirm this detail one way or another. It did, however, say that the games would be specially “designed for the Switch 2.

“We’re excited to bring two of our most beloved franchises, EA SPORTS FC and Madden NFL, to Nintendo’s new handheld platform, Switch 2. It’s a great opportunity to reach even more fans – especially younger players – with the sports they love,” said the company.

In the meantime, last year’s EA Sports FC 25 got a major update in April that introduced the game’s first season pass. Dubbed the Premium Pass, it was available to buy for 500,000 coins or 1,000 FC points, which roughly translates to around $10. Players can play the game and complete objectives to earn rewards throughout the season pass.

Overall, the first season pass featured 40 tiers worth of rewards, including Ultimate Team packs, Evolutions, player items, and even cosmetic items.
