DICE producer asks players what the Battlefield 6 server browser needs most

Why do you care about having a Battlefield 6 server browser? That’s the question posed by DICE producer Alexia Christofi as the team aims to hone its offering to best suit the community’s demands. We’ve just been given a first proper look at the bombastic new entry in EA and DICE’s long-running multiplayer FPS series, and I’m already feeling the itch to suit up and join the action. As the beta nears, Christofi calls on players to tell the studio what they want to see from the new shooter’s server browser tools.

You can read Sam’s enthusiastic Battlefield 6 preview for a glimpse at what’s to come, with whispers that it might prove “an exciting return to form” for a series that’s given us several of the best FPS games on PC. While I played earlier entries on console, I shifted over around the era of Bad Company 2 and BF3, and the server browser was fundamental to my enjoyment, letting me quickly find games that matched my exact interests and skill level (Operation Metro 24/7) rather than hitting the queue button and hoping.

It’s a feature I think almost any of the best multiplayer games can benefit from, and I’m therefore glad it’s making a comeback in Battlefield 6. The new-look server browser is planned as part of the returning Battlefield Portal, and Christofi takes to X to ask the community, “What is it about a server browser that’s important to you lot?” Lest there be any doubt, she stresses that the question comes “not because I don’t know the answers to what I’m asking, but because often people’s feedback varies from person to person.”

The post, made early in the morning of Sunday August 3, has since gathered many responses, with plenty more coming via a subsequent thread on the main Battlefield Reddit page. Summarizing the feedback, Christofi writes, “Feels like your most important things are: persistent servers; a sense of community and a way to play together; being able to choose specific maps/modes; being able to filter by ping/server fullness; and support for low-pop regions.”

The good news is that Christofi believes DICE is on the right track. “I think our server browser solution answers all these wants. Yes, it’s via portal and shows community experiences, but these can award full XP, will be front and center in our main menu, not hidden, and will allow you to filter and search for specific things you want.” With the Battlefield 6 beta right around the corner, it’s reassuring to hear that the studio and its players are on the same page.

More to share on this in future. But I think our server browser solution answers all these wants. Yes, it's via portal and shows community experiences, but these can award full XP, will be front and center in our main menu, not hidden - and will allow you to filter and search for specific things you want. Again, more to share on this in the future - but seeing all your replies I think what we have caters to the majority of use cases. We can talk more about if/why it feels like it's not enough at a later date!"

“Again, more to share on this in the future, but seeing all of your replies I think what we have caters to the majority of use cases,” Christofi concludes. In even better news, she adds that the developer is still open to further feedback. “We can talk more about if/why it feels like it’s not enough at a later date.”

The Battlefield 6 release date is set for Friday October 10, so be sure to stay tuned to PCGamesN for all the latest news, including everything we know about the current crop of Battlefield 6 weapons.
