‘Dexter’ Returns to New York with New Faces, Old Guilt, and a Body Count in ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ | EUR Video Exclusive

*“Dexter: Resurrection,” the gripping continuation of “Dexter: New Blood,” debuted July 11 with two episodes on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. The series finds Dexter Morgan waking up from a coma in a New York City hospital, reeling from the gunshot delivered by his son, Harrison.
Directed by showrunner Clyde Phillips and filmed in New York, the new chapter features both familiar and fresh faces. SAG and Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall reprises his role as Dexter Morgan, joined by returning fan-favorite David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista.
“First of all, it was wonderful to jump into this character again and being able to explore and find out new things about his past life,” Zayas said of returning to the role. “And I think that the new information of a revelation of what he’s found out about Dexter Morgan, beginning with the fact that he’s still alive… he’s got to deal with that. And it’s a lot of guilt… how did he let it slip?”
Now far from Miami, Batista finds himself following Dexter into a new terrain. “He’s in this world where he doesn’t have the authority. It’s cold and it’s different than Miami,” Zayas added. “It’s such an interesting journey in Dexter: Resurrection for Angel Batista. And it’s gonna be compelling.”
Joining the cast is Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, who plays Blessing Kamara, a New York City cab driver who becomes one of Dexter’s few allies. “Dexter needs a friend. And Blessing becomes that friend,” Mwine shared. “I play a cab driver. And cab drivers know the ins and outs of the city. He has a spare room…so he brings Dexter into his fold and provides him a roof over his head and a hot meal.”
The dynamic between Batista and Blessing offers new tension and some dark comedy.
“I will say that the one thing Dexter Morgan and Angel Batista have in common is they’re able to identify people that are good for them,” Zayas said. “Dexter and Angel discover Blessing and his family, and how good they are.”
Mwine added, “I’ve lost the body count… because Dexter’s staying in my character’s home, like in the basement apartment, but I haven’t counted how many bodies are disposed of in my character’s home.”
Detectives Claudette Wallace and Melvin Oliva—played by Kadia Saraf and Dominic Fumusa—are among the new additions who anchor the story in New York’s gritty streets.
“I play NYPD Homicide Detective Melvin Oliva,” Fumusa said. “I’m partnered with Detective Claudette Wallace, played by Kadia. Together, we complement each other’s skill sets…we’re a good team.”
Saraf added, “I play Claudette Wallace, Homicide Detective. And she, to me, is kind of New York City. They, just like New York, don’t give a rat’s ass of what the world thinks about us. We just get done what we need to get done.”
Meanwhile, Harrison—Dexter’s estranged son—finds solace in a new friend, Elsa Rivera, played by Emilia Suárez.
“She is Harrison’s good friend that works at the Empire Hotel with him,” Suárez shared. “She’s a very intelligent, vibrant, hardworking young woman…and gives us an opportunity to see him have a real friend and take an exhale.”
For the new cast, joining the iconic franchise carried both weight and creative satisfaction.
“It’s really special to know that the thing you’re making is so loved while you’re making it,” Suárez said. “It’s all in service of the audience.”
Saraf echoed the sentiment: “What excites me…is that I’m so valued, that my creativity is valued, that the collaboration is there and it’s sincere.” Fumusa added, “We know going in that it’s something that works, that it’s beloved…But to Kadia’s point, it’s also great to start a new chapter. And here we are in New York City.”
As Dexter and Harrison are pulled deeper into the shadows of their past, “Dexter: Resurrection” promises dark revelations, emotional reckonings, and plenty of bodies—some literally underfoot.
New episodes of “Dexter: Resurrection” drop Fridays on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.
