Damson Idris Cast as Miles Davis in Bill Pohlad’s Paris‑Set Love Story ‘Miles & Juliette’

*River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad is heading back to the world of musical legends, this time swapping the California surf of “Love & Mercy” for post‑war Paris.
His new feature, “Miles & Juliette,” will follow 22‑year‑old trumpeter Miles Davis (Damson Idris) as a 1949 visit to France sparks an intense affair with singer‑actress Juliette Gréco (Anamaria Vartolomei), Variety reports. Canadian auteur Xavier Dolan has signed on for a key role, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Zora Howard penned the screenplay. Producing with Pohlad and River Road’s Kim Roth are Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman of Jagged Films, working in association with the Miles Davis Estate.
“Though much of my work has centered on music, I’ve always been drawn to the intimacy and complexity of a great love story,” Pohlad said, adding that the film explores “the universal rhythm of falling in love, of being transformed by it, and of carrying its echo with you long after the moment has passed.”
Jagger called the jazz icon “inarguably one of the most influential and important musicians of the 20th Century,” and said he was “so thrilled to be a part of a film that celebrates the early days of Miles Davis and his great love, Juliette Gréco.”
The project arrives as Idris gears up for a very different role opposite Brad Pitt in Apple Original Films’ “F1 The Movie,” due in theaters June 27. Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a once-promising F1 driver whose career was derailed by a devastating crash in the 1990s. Now, decades later, Sonny is lured back into the high-speed world he left behind.

The film follows Sonny’s reluctant return to the sport after a call from his former teammate Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, who now owns a floundering Formula 1 team in desperate need of a comeback. With his legacy hanging in the balance, Sonny agrees to race again, this time mentoring the team’s ambitious young rookie, Joshua Pearce (Idris).
“The greatest that never was,” Sonny is a man grappling with his past while navigating fierce competition on the track, including from his own teammate. As the story unfolds, he learns that redemption in Formula 1 doesn’t come easy, and it certainly doesn’t come alone.
Joining Pitt, Idris, and Bardem is a stacked cast, including Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia. The film has been uniquely shot during real Grand Prix weekends, immersing viewers directly into the intense world of Formula 1 alongside actual racing legends and events.
