Patti LaBelle’s Emotional 81st Birthday Celebration Shines at Sold-Out Queens Tour Show in NYC
*Patti LaBelle turned 81 on May 24, and the legendary Grammy-winning vocalist delivered a heartfelt performance at a sold-out Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of the Queens Tour.
Joined by fellow icons Gladys Knight, Stephanie Mills, and Chaka Khan, La Belle captivated the audience with her timeless energy, reflecting on her 65-year career and urging fans to embrace aging with confidence. “Let me say something. I have so many people who are afraid to say how young they are,” she told the crowd, PEOPLE reports. “Don’t be scared. 81 is wonderful, okay? Happy birthday.”
The evening took an emotional turn as LaBelle was joined on stage by her son and longtime manager, Zuri Kye Edwards. The music icon grew tearful, expressing gratitude for the sold-out arenas and her fellow performers.
“We don’t take that for granted. We are such hardworking women,” she said. “I’ve been doing it for 65 years, and to still have people come to see our show, we are truly blessed.”
LaBelle also took a moment to honor those who make her performances possible, dedicating the night to her son. “I can’t do all of this without my band, my crew, my lighting, my sound, my security, which I don’t need, but I’ve got Will. And this is for my son, Zuri,” she said.

The Queens Tour, which began on May 9 in Las Vegas, will hit up Chicago on May 30, just two days after Gladys Knight’s 81st birthday, promising another night of soulful celebration.
