Splitgate 2 goes to beta and the studio responsible sheds some staff

Here’s what we’d call a botched start. Splitgate 2 was released on May 22 on consoles and PC. The free-to-play game from 1047 Games got mediocre reviews, with a mixed average on Steam.
This week, the studio shared some surprising news: the title is going back to beta until early 2026. During this period, the developers will be "rebuilding major parts of the game to capture the spirit of what made Splitgate special". Overall progression will be revised, monetization simplified and content refocused on more classic game modes.
To make way for these efforts, the studio will close the servers of the first Splitgate in a month’s time. The teams will study the possibility of keeping the game playable with an offline mode. On the other hand, Splitgate 2 will remain accessible and Chapter 3 will be released just as planned.
Last but not least, 1047 Games will be laying off a number of staff in order to achieve its mission. The employees affected will receive severance pay and help with finding a new job.
