In true Saturday Night Live fashion, Conan O’Brien shared that he met some of the biggest A-listers in the world at the show’s infamous after-parties.
Appearing on a recent episode of the Back to the Best podcast, O’Brien was asked about the first major celebrity party he attended. The formerTonight Show host said that the event was SNL’s 15th anniversary, which happened in his 20s.
“That was my first time seeing an insane number of celebrities in one small space,” he said. “Prince was there and he had just done the Batman soundtrack.”
O’Brien said the Purple One performed and the audience held up bat-shaped mirrors to reflect light onto him.

“I remember being in a crowded hallway and he was standing right next to me, the most perfect-looking person you’d ever see in your life,” O’Brien further recalled.
The comedian said that SNL parties attracted “huge stars” that defined their eras. While working at the sketch show, O’Brien also met George Harrison, which he described as an honor for a “Beatles fanatic” like himself, and Jon Bon Jovi.

“Jon Bon Jovi came to an SNL party when he was the biggest thing in the world,” O’Brien said. “It was, like, 1988 and he came and I remember he’s wearing, like, a leather buckskin cool outfit. Just so cool.”
O’Brien was a writer on SNL from 1988 to 1991. He worked alongside fellow comedians like Robert Smigel, Bob Odenkirk, and Greg Daniels during his tenure.
