City Life Game with Friends is EA’s sneaky trial of Project Rene, the new Sims spinoff

Some of you longtime readers may’ve noticed that we recently launched a new site covering everything about The Sims, which remains a hugely popular series. And some of those readers may have checked out my quick overview of the upcoming social-focused spinoff Project Rene. Now, it seems EA is sneakily trialling the aforementioned project under the rather bland name of City Life Game with Friends.
So what’s it all about? Well, in my breakdown of what we knew about Project Rene, I highlighted a few things that seemed to be proven right with this launch. City Life looks to be much more focused on social gaming, akin to something like Haegin’s Play Together, and working life within a local cafe to unlock new cosmetics.
In essence, if I was being a cynic I’d say this could be the SimCity 2014 of the franchise. But, on the optimistic side, it’s worth noting that this is very early days for this new release.
City Living
EA will have serious competition with this new version of the Sims if the focus is on social multiplayer gaming. Aside from dedicated releases like Play Together, Roblox also has dozens if not hundreds of experiences which offer similar roleplaying opportunities.
But then again it’s not as if The Sims don’t already have a presence on mobile. So will City Life be a Renaissance or a dud? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, but keep your eyes peeled for our first impressions and previews both here and over on The Sims News.
