Cassie Ventura Testifies About Alleged Abuse in Diddy Trial
*On May 13 and 14, 2025, singer Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura took the stand in the ongoing Diddy trial, delivering emotional testimony about her decade-long relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs. She described enduring years of physical and psychological abuse, including being coerced into drug-fueled sex acts known as “freak offs.”
Ventura recounted a 2016 incident where Combs allegedly assaulted her in a hotel hallway, an event captured on surveillance video. She also detailed being forced into numerous “freak offs,” which left her feeling “humiliated” and “disgusting.” Ventura stated she decided to testify to “do the right thing” and could no longer carry the “guilt” of her experiences.
Other Witnesses Corroborate Ventura’s Claims
Israel Florez, a Los Angeles police officer and former hotel security guard, testified about witnessing Combs assault Ventura in 2016. He alleged that Combs offered him a bribe to suppress the incident. Daniel Phillip, a male revue manager, testified about being paid to have sex with Ventura in front of Combs and witnessing Combs assault her. Phillip’s cross-examination continued into May 13.
These testimonies support the prosecution’s case that Combs engaged in a pattern of abuse and coercion, using his influence to manipulate and control his victims.
Prosecution Alleges Criminal Enterprise Led by Combs
Prosecutors, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson, allege that Combs ran a criminal enterprise through his business empire, engaging in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice. They claim Combs coerced women into “freak offs” using drugs, threats, and violence, and used his inner circle to cover up his actions.
Key evidence includes the 2016 hotel surveillance video showing Combs assaulting Ventura, which Judge Arun Subramanian ruled admissible. The prosecution argues that Combs’ actions were part of a broader pattern of criminal behavior.
Defense Argues Consensual Relationships
Combs’ legal team, including attorneys Teny Geragos and Xavier Donaldson, argues that the sexual activities were consensual and part of a “swinger” lifestyle. They claim the relationships involved “capable, strong adult women” and dispute the coercion narrative. The defense has also attempted to introduce evidence of mutual violence between Combs and Ventura, though the judge has been reluctant to allow this.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to all five counts and rejected a plea deal in April 2025. His family, including his mother Janice and children, have been present in court, showing support. Combs has been observed making gestures like heart signs to his family during the trial.
Trial Expected to Last Eight to Ten Weeks
The Diddy trial began on May 12, 2025, after jury selection was finalized, seating 12 jurors and six alternates. The trial is expected to last eight to ten weeks, with more witnesses scheduled to testify in the coming days.
Beyond the criminal trial, Combs is dealing with over 60 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and other misconduct, with more potential claims pending. The trial’s high-profile nature has drawn significant media attention, with Judge Subramanian enforcing strict rules to maintain jury impartiality, including barring jurors from discussing or reading about the case.
