Capcom is Expanding Development Teams With 100 New Employees Every Year, New Building Next to HQ

Capcom has confirmed that it is looking to expand its development division with a new building that is planned to finish construction by 2027. According to Gamebiz.jp, the new building will is based right net to Capcom’s headquarters in Osaka, Japan, and the company plans on further fleshing out its development teams by hiring 100 new employees every year.
The company revealed these plans during its recent earnings call for the fiscal year ending in March 2025, where it also confirmed that RE Engine will continue to be the game engine of choice for developing games at the company. The engine is slated to get continuous developments and updates in order to support new technologies, as well as to improve work efficiency.
Earlier this month, Capcom had also revealed new sales figures for some of its biggest franchises, while also confirming that it has seen a growth in profits for the 12th consecutive year. According to its earnings report, Monster Hunter Wilds was a strong recent contributor to this growth, and the company expects to sell 54 million copies of the game over the coming fiscal year. The game has been incredibly successful for Capcom, with the company confirming that 10 million copies were sold in its first month of release alone.
As for the company’s other franchises, sales for the Resident Evil franchise now sit at 170 copies, while the Monster Hunter franchise now boasts 120 million copies. The Street Fighter series is still going strong, with 56 million copies, and is followed by Mega Man with 43 million copies, and Devil May Cry with 33 million copies. Some of the smaller titles Capcom’s umbrella have also had their sales figures revealed, including Onimusha with 8.7 million copies, Ace Attorney with 13 million copies, and Okami with 4.6 million copies.
While Monster Hunter Wilds will likely see continued sales success thanks to post-launch support, Capcom is also working on reviving some of its older IPs. A sequel to Okami was unveiled back in December during The Game Awards 2024, with Capcom confirming that it is being directed by Hideki Kamiya and development is being handled by a team dubbed Clovers. The game is being developed using RE Engine, with support from studio Machine Head Works.
“The way that Machine Head Works is involved now, working together with Capcom and Clovers, is that, of course, we have Capcom as the major IP holder of Ōkami, deciding the major direction of the games,” said Machine Head Works producer Kiyohiko Sakata. “And we have Clovers as the development lead for this project.”
A revival of the Onimusha franchise is also in the works, with a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny having been released just last week. A full-fledged sequel, dubbed Onimusha: Way of the Sword, is also currently under development for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Capcom has confirmed some details about the upcoming title, including the fact that it will take players around 20 hours to finish, as well as the fact that it will feature stage-based progression.
