The first Fallout almost went for real-time gameplay

When it was released in 1997, the first Fallout made some waves thanks to its post-apocalyptic universe and writing style that was as weird as it was great. However, the game could have been very different.
In a recent video, Tim Cain, the franchise’s co-creator, revealed that the turn-based gameplay mechanics of the first two entries had almost been replaced. Indeed, the publisher suggested going for real-time action at the time.
"The Interplay marketing team contacted me in 1996, a year before release, and they wanted Fallout to be made in real time because of Diablo. They insisted several times, and I finally managed to convince them to stop, pointing out the money and time needed for such a change. And they finally stopped."
Cain also added that if a remake of Fallout 1 were to see the light of day, it would not have to go turn-based to remain faithful to the original game.
