‘Big Brother 27’ Hotel Mystère theme and premiere twists revealed

The mystery is officially over as far as what the theme for season 27 of Big Brother will be. Because it turns out the mystery theme is… mystery! Specifically, a “summer of mystery.” And this summer’s contestants won’t just be entering the Big Brother house when they arrive for the 90-minute premiere on July 10 on CBS; they will also be checking into Hotel Mystère, complete with a fancy accent and everything!

However, before we get more into the Hotel Mystère theme — including oodles of photos below showing all the rooms in the house — CBS has also announced some big twists for the premiere. Twists like “a masked visitor, a secret accomplice, and the shocking arrival of a ‘Mystery Houseguest’ whose identity will remain under wraps … at least for now.”

Hold on… a masked visitor, a secret accomplice, and a mystery houseguest???? Does this mean a returning player will be making their way back into the house to compete, or could it instead be a notable name from a different CBS reality TV show, like when Survivor star Cirie Fields showed up in the final minutes of the Big Brother 25 premiere in 2023? And what are we to make of the aforementioned masked visitor and secret accomplice? Could this be a dynamic duo of, say, Taylor Hale and Jankie? And if that notion sounds positively ridiculous to you, please remind yourself that we are talking about a franchise that trotted out a Time Laser not once, but twice!

But while we can only speculate as to what those premiere twists could mean, we have some hard evidence on Hotel Mystère itself courtesy of photographic evidence. And here is some additional intel on the house provided by the network, including clues in key boxes, a secret room throwing all the way back to season 1, and a very ominous sounding “Poison Bar.”

Mystery Hotel Theme: The Big Brother house is transformed into a suspense-filled hotel, complete with secrets, hidden passageways, and a mysterious vibe that sets the stage for a summer of intrigue.

Reception Area: Houseguests are welcomed by a wall of 75 key boxes, some filled with skeleton keys and other clues that might reveal themselves later in the game…

Living Room Chess Guardians: Towering 22-foot walls and a balcony lined with giant plaster chess pieces (bishop, queen, king, knight) watch over the house, adding a regal and strategic flair.

Attic Bedroom of Oddities: Beds made from wooden crates, rubber masks on the walls, and haunted artifacts like a black knight’s helmet and diving suit make this room a spooky treasure trove.

Sleeper Car Bunk Room: Behind a secret entrance, this train-themed bedroom straight out of a murder mystery novel contains bunk beds for six Houseguests (the first time the BB house has had bunk beds since season one!) and a sleek Art Deco design.

Rooftop Garden Kitchen: The kitchen and dining area mimic a rooftop garden with ivy-covered walls, sunset skies, and a 10-foot round garden party table under string lights.

Secretive “Wine Cellar”: A moody, bottle-lined cellar (with no actual wine, sorry Houseguests) is a perfect spot for whispering secrets and plotting moves.

Victorian Conservatory Lounge: A lush, plant-filled room with a 13-foot green velvet lounge and a plum tree, ideal for quiet strategy sessions.

Venom Lounge and Poison Bar: Upstairs, snakes slither across the wallpaper in a moody lounge featuring a “Poison Bar” (don’t worry, there is no actual poison), a velvet daybed, and ravens stealing party lights.

Boxing Ring Gym: The gym includes a full boxing ring, heavy bag, and workout gear – great for blowing off steam and staying in top sleuthing shape.
