*In “Tyler Perry’s Duplicity,” truth is as elusive as justice. The Prime Video thriller explores betrayal, systemic injustice, and the limits of loyalty. The film stars Kat Graham, Meagan Tandy, Tyler Lepley, and RonReaco Lee.
The story follows high-powered attorney Marley Wells (Kat Graham), who vows to uncover the truth behind the fatal shooting of her best friend’s husband. But as Marley digs deeper, her world unravels—especially as she begins to question those closest to her, including her longtime boyfriend Tony (Tyler Lepley), a former cop turned private investigator.
In an interview with EUR’s Jill Munroe,Graham shared what drew her to the character.
“We always want to bring layers to a character,” she said. “The great thing about this script is that it was in the writing. Sometimes as actors, we have to invent the layers. Tyler definitely made sure these characters had complexities—grief, betrayal—and they reacted to things so differently, it was fun to play.”
Tandy, who plays Fela Blackburn, echoed that sentiment. “Approaching a character with so much going on was actually fun for me,” she said.
“The challenge was learning how to make those levels exist in one space and still keep her human. I loved that Fela was seen as put-together on the outside but actually very vulnerable underneath. That was easy to connect with.”
Their characters’ friendship provides the emotional center of the film.
“They’re best friends doing life together—cycle classes, introducing each other to their men,” Tandy explained.
“There’s something really genuine and intentional about that bond,” she added.
As the plot thickens, Marley begins to suspect Tony may be hiding secrets. Lepley, who plays Tony, admitted that thinking about likability wasn’t his focus.
“I can’t lie. It’s not something I really think about,” he said. “Once I start worrying about whether the character is likable, it takes me out of finding the truth in the moment. Especially with someone like Tony, you’ve got to trust the writing.”
Meanwhile,Lee, who portrays Lt. Kevin Moore—a senior officer involved in the film’s pivotal shooting—reflected on the emotional weight of one of the film’s most powerful scenes.
“Being an actor in that moment, witnessing a shooting… that’s something I’ll never forget,” he said. “It was easy to access because the stakes were so high. But emotionally, it was very hard. I wouldn’t want to be in that position in real life.”
When it comes to Tyler Perry’s signature twists, both actors admitted they were caught off guard.
“It was a slow burn,” Lee said. “Then it got to that point and I was like, flip—yeah, I didn’t see that coming at all.” Lepley agreed, adding, “Same. When it happened, I was excited. It hit hard.”
Duplicity is the kind of film that keeps viewers guessing until the final moments, using its thriller structure to explore real-world themes like police violence, trust in the justice system, and how the people we love can also be the ones keeping secrets.
