Bearplane lets you ram into your enemies as a rocket-powered bear with a 1940s aesthetic, coming soon

  • Bearplane is as it says on the tin – sort of
  • Play as a rocket-powered bear
  • Lovely 1940s aesthetics and big-band music

Every so often, we come across a piece of history that’s just too bizarre not to talk about it – which is exactly what happened with indie developer Matthew Burton in Bearplane, an aptly titled arcade shooter where you’re (you guessed it) a bear on a plane. Well, you’re not exactly in a plane so much as you ARE the plane, in the sense that you’re a bear strapped to a rocket with all might and no mercy.

In Bearplane, you’ll rid the skies of your enemies by ramming into them, burning them to a crisp, or roaring so loud their guts literally explode. You’re doing all this with a smile on your face and a lovely big-band swing soundtrack serenading you in the background – a tune so catchy I actually want to add that to my Spotify playlist ASAP.

Even more interesting is that Bearplane is inspired by an actual bear who served in WWII under the Polish army – apparently, Wojtek the bear was even promoted to Corporal, which is simply mind-blowing to me.

And, if you ever feel like you need a helping hand in defeating your foes, you can team up with Rocket Rat in local co-op, because two rocket-powered animals are better than one.
