Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals pick for the worst ‘Terminator’ movie

Arnold Schwarzenegger will not, in fact, be back to watch one particular entry in his iconic Terminator film series, it seems.

The 77-year-old actor and politician recently appeared on the Watch What Happens Live talk show to promote season 2 of his Netflix series FUBAR, and he fielded an audience question about which Terminator movie he thinks is the worst of all time.

“I would say the worst was probably the No. 4, because that was done during the time I was governor [of California] and I was not in it,” Schwarzenegger said to host Andy Cohen, referencing 2009’s Christian Bale-starring blockbuster Terminator Salvation.

He continued, asking, “How do you do a Terminator movie without me being in the Terminator movie? It doesn’t make any sense.”

Schwarzenegger, a former bodybuilder, helped popularize director James Cameron’s 1984 science fiction classic as the titular robot assassin, and appeared in subsequent films including 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day and the 2003 film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

After Cohen asked if Schwarzenegger made any stern phone calls to members of production on the fourth film while he was in office, the star joked, “I called immediately.”

He continued, “I said, ‘I’m going to pass a law forbidding [filmmakers] to do movies that suck!”

The McG-directed Terminator Salvation is the only Terminator main series film to not feature Schwarzenegger, though his digitally recreated likeness does appear at one point in the movie.

While it grossed around $372 million at the global box office, Salvation received negative reviews, and preceded a franchise reboot in 2012, with Schwarzenegger reprising his role in 2015’s Terminator Genisys.

While he’s no longer involved in leading the state of California’s politics, Schwarzenegger did share on a recent episode of The View how he’d handle Donald Trump’s ICE deportations in the state and around the country that sparked nationwide protests.

“I think most important thing is, if you’re in a leadership position like that, is that you’re inclusive and that you work together with everybody,” Schwarzenegger said at the time. “And so it means that you have to work together with local government the state government and the federal government. You have to work together rather than fighting each other.”
