Hulu’s reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars content creator Taylor Frankie Paul, along with a cast of other Utah-based women. Throughout the first season, viewers saw Taylor and boyfriend Dakota Mortensen hit several rough patches in their relationship, but are they still together today?
Are Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen Still Together?
When The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2 premiered in May 2025, fans learned that Taylor and Dakota had split after she discovered he had cheated on her with a woman named Jenna.
“Dakota was involved with the girl. During our early dating, he swore that nothing really happened besides kissing and then he finally came forward after all this time saying that there was more to that story,” Taylor said during the first episode of season 2. “I was lied to for two years. I feel so betrayed. I’m in denial that this is even real right now. I don’t know if I even want to move forward.”
She later confirmed their split when she replied to a commenter on TikTok.
“Dakota isn’t mine anymore, wish him the best,” Taylor wrote on May 18, 2025, per E! News.
While Taylor and Dakota remained together after season 1 of the show premiered, she revealed they had split on September 23, 2024. “I would say we’re working on things, and I actually have no idea where it goes with us from here,” she told Us Weekly just days after sparking breakup rumors by posting a cryptic TikTok video. “We are not fully together, but not fully done. I don’t know what the future holds with him and I.”
After noting she was “heartbroken” over the situation, Taylor said she was “trying to cope.”
She then explained that Dakota wasn’t happy with the way he was portrayed on the show, which led to problems in their relationship. “He has a really good soft side, and I feel like that wasn’t shown on the show,” Taylor said. “He’s like, ‘I look like this a–hole to you while you’re pregnant, when that’s just not the case of how I treated you the whole time. Yes, I did defend myself in [some] cases, but that’s not how I am to you. I look like this awful person when I’m not.’”
Prior to revealing they are currently working through the issues, Taylor and Dakota seemed to be going strong after the show premiered.
After the show’s premiere on September 6, 2024, Taylor shared a TikTok video that joked about seeing Dakota’s family after they watched The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and got an inside look at their rocky relationship. The clip implied to fans that despite their issues, they were still trying to work it out.
The mom of three opened up about her relationship with Dakota during an interview with Parade.
“I definitely love him a lot,” Taylor told the outlet in an article published on September 5, 2024. “We came into this relationship with a lot of baggage, and it’s been really hard to work through…it’s been rocky but I choose him always.”
Taylor hinted that her relationship with Dakota was still going strong on October 20, 2024, by sharing a photo of him showing her how to shoot a rifle on her Instagram Stories. Additionally, she shared a meme that read, “Due to personal reasons, I’ll be back with the same man I said I’m done with.”
Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen Are Coparenting as Exes
Ahead of the season 2 premiere in May 2025, Taylor shared another update about her relationship status with Dakota. “We’ve obviously come a long way to navigate it,” she told Us Weekly in a story published on May 6, 2025, confirming that they’re not romantically involved. “It’s different from my first husband [Tate Paul] because there’s obviously a friendship there. We adjusted.”
“Whereas [with] Dakota, everything’s fresh. It’s something that we necessarily didn’t want to do but needed to separate,” she revealed. “So it’s an adjustment and we’ve had to learn through the obstacles of this experience to do what’s best for our son.”
She added that they’ve “gotten better” at coparenting since they’re split. “Of course when things are heightened, you’re breaking up and it’s not something you wanted and you just had a baby,” Taylor said. “It was not the prettiest experience, but currently we’ve come a long way.”
When Did Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen Start Dating?
Taylor’s divorce from ex-husband Tate Paul made headlines after it exposed the “soft swinging” scandal that blew up their friend group in May 2022. She revealed that she had broken one of the self-imposed rules of “soft swinging,” and had sex with another man. (“Soft swinging” means participants do everything but have actual sexual intercourse.)
However, the reality star didn’t stay single for long. Two months later, Taylor introduced Dakota in her TikTok videos as “the man she cheated with.” Fans of the content creator were wary of her jumping into a relationship so soon after ending her years-long marriage to Tate.
In February 2023, Taylor was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, child abuse, criminal mischief and domestic violence in the presence of a child. The arrest, which is seen in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives first episode, happened after she and Dakota got into a fight and Taylor allegedly threw a phone and “heavy metal chairs.” One of those chairs reportedly hit her daughter, Indy, according to The New York Post. In September 2023, Taylor pleaded guilty to the assault charge and took a plea deal while the other charges were dropped.
“That was one of the worst nights of my life,” Taylor told Parade. “I do talk a lot about that on the show. It’s a hard topic and emotional because it’s very embarrassing and something I’m not proud of but with that being said, that night also turned my life around because I hit rock bottom and I finally got the help I needed. I went into classes with parenting. I haven’t drank alcohol since that very night so it’s been really good for me as well.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives showed some of the low points in Taylor’s life, including when she confessed to her friends that she and Dakota had lost a baby to an ectopic pregnancy. However, it also featured one of the most joyful moments. In the season finale, viewers saw Taylor give birth to her and Dakota’s first child together. The couple welcomed son Ever True into their family on March 19, 2024.
