Apple TV+ Premieres Groundbreaking Two-Part Documentary ‘Number One on the Call Sheet’


*Apple TV+ is set to debut its highly anticipated two-part documentary film event, “Number One on the Call Sheet,” on March 28, offering an intimate and powerful look at the experiences of Black leading men and women in Hollywood.
Produced by industry powerhouses Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner, and Dan Cogan, the documentary shines a spotlight on the triumphs and challenges faced by Black actors as they navigate the entertainment industry, per the news release.
“Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood,” directed by Reginald Hudlin, features some of Hollywood’s most celebrated Black male actors, including Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Idris Elba, and Michael B. Jordan. With personal insights from these industry legends, the documentary delves into the evolution of Black male leads in film, the obstacles they’ve overcome, and the blueprint for sustained success. The film also includes commentary from key industry figures such as Reuben Cannon, Nina Shaw, and Quentin Tarantino.
The companion documentary, “Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Women in Hollywood,” is directed by Shola Lynch and features icons such as Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Whoopi Goldberg, and Octavia Spencer. These women, along with contributors like Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, and Tessa Thompson, share their experiences of breaking barriers, creating opportunities, and redefining Hollywood’s traditional narratives about Black women. During an exclusive screening in New York, Kevin Hart, who serves as both producer and contributor, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I personally think Number One on the Call Sheet is genius—one of the best ideas I’ve ever been able to be a part of—especially in the space of documentary and storytelling.”
Hudlin echoed Hart’s sentiments, emphasizing the inspirational nature of the documentary. “This is a movie of winners. They all have their own path and their own way to success. And whether you are in the entertainment business or not, I think there are lessons to come from all of these amazing men and women,” he said.
“Number One on the Call Sheet” is poised to leave a lasting impact, shedding light on the personal and professional journeys of Black actors while celebrating their invaluable contributions to the entertainment industry.
The two-part documentary will be available for streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ starting March 28.
